february: The Art & Science of focus
Date: Thursday, February 26
Time: 9:30-10:30am PT
Where: Virtual (via Zoom)
In this 1-hour Neurosweat Lab session, The Art & Science of Focus, we’ll explore what focus really is, how it works in the brain, and how to train it like a skill. Our attention is constantly being pulled in multiple directions by both internal and external stimuli, and without the ability to deliberately guide it, performance, productivity, and well-being all suffer. Drawing from neuroscience, sport psychology, and yoga philosophy, this workshop will teach you how to direct your mental “spotlight” on demand, recover quickly from distractions, and sustain attention when it matters most. You’ll leave with practical tools to sharpen concentration, regulate your nervous system, and access deeper states of engagement in sport, work, and life.
What We’ll Cover
What focus is (and isn’t): understanding the brain’s attentional networks and why focus is a trainable skill
The four types of focus (internal/external × broad/narrow) and when to use each for optimal performance
The neuroscience of distraction and switch costs
The hidden role of self-talk in sustaining (or breaking) attention
Evidence-based focus strategies from both top-down (mental skills) and bottom-up (nervous system regulation) approaches
